Position Overview:
The purpose of the Interconnection Associate role is to lead the interconnection application process for all US projects. This is a highly collaborative role with a large focus on engagement with land origination, state managers and engineers to expedite submitting our projects into the study process and ensure we maintain good standing in the queues. This role will coordinate the interconnection application process and monitor the applications until the projects are exporting electricity to the grid. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Interconnection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the interconnection process for all development projects in the United States.
- Prepare and submit interconnection applications for acceptance into the queue process for different utilities and ISOs/RTOs. This includes working closely with the engineering team to prepare site plans and line diagrams for interconnection applications and design updates as required.
- Analyze interconnection tariffs and policies to develop and refine our interconnection application strategy, in accordance with our overall development and EPC strategies. This involves reading tariffs and other literature and presenting proposed approaches to best position ourselves for future flexibility and expense timing. This involves communicating to the greater team the results of research and analyses.
- Liaise with utility representatives and coordinate the application process through the entire interconnection study process and on to commercial operations. This involves meeting regularly with utility representatives and internal leaders to advocate for timely work completion. This involves communicating to the greater team lessons learned from utility engagement.
- Coordinate the progression of interconnection studies, including checking in on the status of applications throughout the study process. This involves developing relationships with utility representatives to ensure good quality service from utilities.
- Receive interconnection agreements and update trackers with key information such as payment amounts and schedules.
- Estimate project upgrade costs and verify cost results returned in interconnection studies.
- Communicate potential interconnection issues affecting the following aspects of project development to the following stakeholders: Project schedules and budgets Project Management, Design limitations - Design, Discovery of distribution or transmission constraints – GIS, Land constraints – Real Estate, Permits and additional research – Governance, and Overall project success – Manager of Interconnection.
- Coordinate with other members of the design and engineering to ensure the designs proposed to utilities are up to utility standards. The role involves regular communication with different team members, ensuring engagement at critical milestones throughout the interconnection process.
- Coordinate and liaise with the Design and Engineering team leaders to ensure knowledge is transferred appropriately.
- The role includes supporting other members of the interconnection team with critical decision-making and innovative thinking around business development and strategy as it relates to interconnection.
- Own the upkeep, organization and improvement of templates, standards and other tools.
What you Bring:
- 1+ years of professional experience involved in clean energy systems, specifically renewables and energy storage systems. Direct experience working for or with utilities is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, energy, law, or other related discipline is preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of interconnection processes and policies is required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills are required.
- The ability to balance and prioritize seemingly competing priorities is required.
- Process-oriented thinking with proven experience in developing processes is required.
- Strong communication and organization skills are required.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook is required.
- Experience working with utility portals such as PowerClerk and National Grid’s portal is preferred.
- Experience with PJM, NYISO, ERCOT, and utilities in the Northeastern US is preferred.
- This position is based in Denver. Remote locations will also be considered. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Exempt Position – Annually Salary: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00
Bonus Opportunity: 15% of annual salary
